He's Home!

My handsome husband walked through the door a day early. He told me he was going to make the trip in two days but I should have known he wouldn't spend money on a hotel room. :) We are over the moon that he is home. Webb has loved having his number one buddy back to wrestle with and rough house with. He starts his new job tomorrow and I must say how proud I am that he's caught on so well. He says the next time he goes out west, we're going with him! Welcome home daddy! You are so special to us!

You know you've lost it when . . .

A. You allow your child to eat dinner in front of the television. Knowingly place his plate in front of the screen so he'll eat and not pitch an ever-loving fit.

B. You dry your hair while peeing on the potty. Cause you gotta be out the door in 10 minutes and you still look a hot mess.

Yep, that's how my day started. But it's going to get better because . . . .

A. I talked to my Care Bear and she reassured me that my time was coming and that I was't bat shit crazy.

B. You're heading to Winston later to visit friends and grab dinner out.

Happy Saturday, ya'll!

Goals

So I belong to a group at work called "Reshaping Reeds." It's a group of staff who get together once a week to weigh in, share recipes, weight loss ideas, inspirational quotations, and support for one another in any weight loss or exercise goal. Today I set a goal and have it posted in my classroom and on my bathroom cabinet where I'll see it every day.

How will I accomplish this goal? Well, once Chris gets home (one week from today!!!!!!!!!!!!), it'll mean lots of early morning runs, Y classes, and Nike training workouts after Loo Loo goes to bed. I've never been more motivated and excited about running and becoming as fit as I can. Here's to 13.1!

Smacked in the Face

Sometimes life just smacks you in the face. Hard. And it wakes you up and makes you come to a realization. This happened to me on this beautiful sunny day as I was playing with my Webb at the park. A bunch of us mothers were visiting and playing when two of us sat down for a minute to chat. This friend of mine has a husband who was recently diagnosed with cancer. They have been through a lot and are now facing months of chemo, radiation, surgery, and the possibility of the husband either walking with a cane or being confined to a wheelchair for the rest of his life. I started with just small talk and I mentioned that Chris had been out of town for a while and how hard it was to take care of Webb by myself. I was complaining some about how hard it can be and how I couldn't wait for him to get home. It didn't even hit me that I should shut up until she brought up her husband and how he can't help her take care of their children anymore, how he's resting all the time, and has to be in a bubble almost so he doesn't get any germs. She talked about how she is the sole income right now, how she just grabs dinner on the way home so they can eat and enjoy family time since he can't help her rangle two toddlers while she fixes dinner. She talked about how tired she was, how devastated they were, and how they just prayed for the future to look as good as possbile. The hurt in her eyes was unbelievable. Damn. I walked away from that conversation feeling so badly. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. My husband isn't ill. My husband will be home in a week and life is resume as normal. It will be years . . . maybe never until their lives resume. Upon my offer to help her with anything, she said all I could do was pray. I gave her my word. And then we agreed to go out for a margarita some time. Life just smacks you in the face sometimes and I'm glad it did. It puts a lot of things into perspective and brings you back down to reality.  God just works that way, huh?

Preschool

We've been talking a lot about preschool at our house lately because Webb will start this fall. When we talk about it, he says he's going to play with trucks at preschool and that mommy will "come right back." He thinks when we leave the house we are either going to Carrie's house or preschool. Sweetness. So today, I went to visit two preschools close by to see which one I thought would serve him best. I had originally set my sights on one in particular but wanted to check out another one just to see. And I'm so glad I did. Here's what won my heart this morning:

*Handwriting Without Tears
*The little one dressed in big camo rain boots who came right up to me and told me his name.
*The little girls playing "family" in the home center- complete with a meal, the costumes, and everything.
*The little boy sitting alone playing with playdough.
*The little girl who shook my hand and said "Nice to meet you."
*The boys playing in the indoor sand box. Sand on the floor, soft music playing in the background.
*Watercolor kites and Dr. Seuss art work on the walls
*A teacher pulling children over to create their names with fruit loops and then asking them if they wanted to do something else. If they didn't, it wasn't a big deal.
*The little art center with yellow paper where the children could explore different shapes and create things with stickers, stamps, and construction paper.
*The old creaky hardwood floors and student work plastering the walls.
*The litter of puzzles that scattered the floor.
*The huge reading center and reading rocket where kids can snuggle up with a book.
*The option for YMCA time one day per week where the kids do music and movement.
*The assortment of dump trucks that lined the wall waiting for my boy.
*Three loving ladies who will love my Webb, let him explore, play, and grow. School readiness will come later. For now, it's student centered which means it's Webb centered. Sold.

The deal is sealed and I couldn't be more happy about my choice.

A Wonderful Weekend!

This has turned out to be a great weekend thanks to dear friends who've kept us busy! Friday night, a few girlfriends came over and we ordered pizza and played Apples to Apples. We drank wine in our pj's and were in bed by 9:30. This is the same friend I used to run crazy with in high school and now we're both mamas and teachers. She means the world to me! Saturday morning we went to breakfast and then I was able to catch a quick 4.5 mile run. Damn, it felt good. I had not run all week because my heel had been bothering me, but after visiting a local chiropractor and getting some laser treatment and a taped calf, I was ready to hit the pavement! We then played at the park, ate lunch, and crashed for a few hours. After Loo Loo woke up, we went back to the park. I then had the brilliant idea of taking him to Chickfila for dinner. It was all fun and games til I realized they were having a birthday party and the place was packed. We ate and got out of there! Today, we went to Sunday School, church, and then to the grocery. Now Webb's napping and I'm catching up on emails, a few lesson plans, and some house work. I'm a little nervous about how the time change will affect Webb's sleeping. I guess we'll see! This afternoon, we're heading to Mimi and Pawpaw's house for dinner. But first, this mama is going running again. Those 4.5 didn't quite do it yesterday.

I am loving this spring like weather. It can stay, yes? Up this week is a follow-up doctor's appt for Loo in Winston and then new running shoes for me. Tuesday, I'm taking the day off to visit preschools to pick the best one for our sweet boy. And then next Saturday, I'm running in a 5k in Winston. We're definitely keeping busy til daddy gets home. It won't be too much longer . . . .

Happy Sunday!

It's all Good When . . .

Friends invite you and your Little over for play time, cold beer, and chili.

More friends invite themselves over to your house with wine, cheese, a selection of movies, a deck of playing cards, and take out.

I am thankful for friends who make my life a little brighter during this crazy time!
