Oh happy day!

Today we celebrated the end of an era. The end of 9 to 5 days, the end of bringing stacks of work home, the end of organizing and conducting team meetings and flu vaccination clinics, the end of home visits all over Davidson County. Today we celebrated the retirement of Chris' mom. Her job title of 'nurse' has been replaced with 'grandmother.' And what a proud grandmother she is. I believe she's been waiting for this day for quite sometime, although bittersweet, it launches her into a new path in life. She and my mom will be taking care of Webb when I go back to work in a few weeks. Everyone asks me if I'm sad about going back to work, and part of me is, but with two women like this, I have no worries that Webb will be cared for and loved while I'm away. So here's to grandmothers- here's to the unconditional love they bring, the abounding pride they carry for their grandson, and the unwavering support they show to our family.

Fun weekend

This weekend was so nice! On Saturday, we stayed here at home most of the morning and afternoon. We played and you and I took long naps. You really love this little play mat and are content here for a good while. You are noticing more and following objects and people with your eyes. Here you are playing!

Saturday afternoon, you went and stayed with Glenyce and Pawpaw Dave while daddy and I went to Winston. Here you are all ready to go!

I really don't think you can get any cuter!

On Sunday, we took you to church and then to lunch. Here you are with Pawpaw Dave. He loves you so much and has a special calming affect on you. We are thankful for grandparents!

You looked so cute in your little outfit. One of mama's best friends gave it to you. I'm sad to say that you've about outgrown it and you've only worn it once! Daddy said you looked like a little sausage!

Sunday afternoon, we spent the day at Finch and Grimes Park. The weather was exceptional- almost 70 degrees! It was so nice to get out and get some fresh air after all the winter weather. You loved being in the jogger and taking in the sights and sounds.

It was a fun weekend . . . you were a sweet boy, as always. Love you, Butterbean!

All is well . . .

You had your shots yesterday and were quite the little champ! You cried (screamed) while she held you down and gave them to you. I think you were screaming more because she was holding you than because of the shots. You came home and slept most of the evening and went to bed at 9. You slept all night long! Bless your heart, you were pooped! Today was a good day. We stayed in and played, slept, watched Golden Girls, and had some tummy time. I've got to do better with tummy time- I've neglected it because you don't care for it much. We bundled up and went to the drug store for a treat. The little old ladies just oogled all over you. Everyone says you have beautiful lips. I believe you have beautiful everything! We then went and visited dad at work. I believe it made his day. You're all tucked in now down in your room, sleeping soundly. We had a wrestling match this afternoon and you beat me! You were fussy for about two hours! The doctor says it's possibly a touch of colic. After I fed you, you cried for about five minutes and were out cold.
Beautiful flowers that Daddy got for me!

Tummy time!

All snuggled up in your swing.

I did forget to mention that you had your first playdate last week! You have two buddies close to you in age- Ruby, who is about a month younger, and Charlie, who is about 5 months older! Your daddy was very impressed that I was taking you to meet a girl so early! :) We definitely look forward to spending more time with these friends and watching our little ones grow up together!

Two Months!

Catching some good zzzz's in the carseat.

Thinking really hard!

My little feet that mama loves to photograph . . . and kiss umpteen times a day!

Happy two months to my sweet Webb! You're getting some shots tomorrow which makes mama very nervous. I know you will need extra TLC afterwards.

You are doing well with bedtime! Daddy has started putting you down around 7:30. Some nights we give you a bath first but you always get fed, swaddled, and rocked in your room where it's quiet. You are still sleeping 4-6 hour stretches which is so nice.

You have outgrown your newborn clothes and are wearing 0-3 month things.

You love to laugh and coo and smile- especially at your dad who makes silly faces!

We are definitely looking forward to spring/summer when we can take you on your first beach trip, play outside, and put you in the little plastic pool. I hope you'll be a water lover like your mom and dad are. Ah, so many wonderful things to look forward to . . . we must remember however, to slow down and enjoy you as you are now- a sweet, soft, cuddly Punker who we absolutely adore. Happy Two Months, Webb!

Our song

A few weeks ago, as we rocked and rocked in the nursery, a song came on the radio that I found myself humming to. As we rocked, the words became real and as I sang to you, my heart filled with such joy and love for you- as it does every single day I'm with you. My hope as I sang this song to you is that you might give your life to Christ and understand that you were made in His image- just like the birds that sing and the tallest trees. I pray that you will always take time to enjoy life's precious moments and small blessings- for those are what matter the most. Every time I hear this song, I am reminded of that night in your room- the moon shining brightly in the window and your soft breath on my face. You are a breath of heaven, my little one, and may God bless you always. I love you.

Starry Night by Chris August

From the Birds that Sing, In the Tallest Trees.

To the Human Life, of you and me.

From the Desert Sands, to the place we stand.

He is God of All, He is Everything.

Waohhh

I'm giving my life to the only One who makes the moon reflect the sun.

Every starry night, that was His design.

I'm giving my life to the only Son, who was and is and yet to come

Let the praises ring, 'cause He is everything

'Cause He is everything

From the autumn leaves, that will ride the breeze

To the Faith it takes, to pray and sing

From the Painted sky, to my plank filled eye

He is God of all, He is everything

Waohhh

I'm giving my life to the only One who makes the moon reflect the sun.

Every starry night, that was His design.

I'm giving my life to the only Son,who was and is and yet to come

Let the praises ring, 'cause He is everything.

Ohhhhhhh (everything)

Hallelujah (Hallelujah)

Hallelujah

I believe

Ohhh

Hallelujah (Hallelujah)

Hallelujah

I believe

I'm giving my life to the only One who makes the moon reflect the sun

On that starry night, He changed my life.

I'm giving it all to the only Son who gave me hope when I had none.

So let the praises ring,

Ohhhh Let the Praises Ring

I'm giving my life to the only One who makes the moon reflect the sun.

Every starry night, that was His design.

I'm giving my life to the only Son, who was and is and yet to come

and the Angels sing, that He is heavenly

So let the Praises ring

'Cause He everything

Rice cereal to the rescue!

Buddy, bless you. I think we went too long and should've taken you to the doctor sooner. You have reflux. And we just thought you were a fussy baby and that you were just going through a little spurt. After a bad spell of fussiness at mom's last week, I decided to take you in. Dr. Durham was so good to you and recommended an easy fix to your fussiness. RICE CEREAL! Ever since we've added it to your formula, you've been a HAPPIER BABY! Which is all my heart desires for you. You are smiling and cooing up a storm when you're awake. And those afternoon fussies have left us. Daddy and I are so glad to have the little problem fixed with something as simple as RICE CEREAL! Here are a few recent pictures of you.

Waking up from nap time is hard work!

You're getting so big!

Your Aunt Nancy came to visit. She absolutely loves you to bits.

Snowed in!

Well, today is day three of being snowed/iced in the house! Thankfully daddy was snowed in with us and was a big help. He really enjoyed spending all day with you. He's back at work for a little while this morning. I'm hoping once it thaws out some, we can venture into town so I can get my hair cut and go to the Y. Here are some things you've been up to:

*You still love sleeping in your swing. When all else fails, we swaddle you up and put you in it. You're off to sleep in minutes!
*You are sleeping very well at night- most of the time. You go down around 10:00 and sleep for a good 4-6 hours. When I feed you in the night, however, you think it's play time when we finish! You love to lay in your bassinett and coo and 'work' for a while. This morning you actually put yourself back to sleep after you got done working. I was so happy!
*You smile a lot- especially at daddy when he makes silly faces at you.
*You LOVE laying in your play pen and watching the elephant mobile. I call that your 'happy place' because you'll lay there for an hour and talk to us. And I love watching your little arms and legs move and work. I tried posting a video on here of this, but it won't upload. I'll try again later.
*You love car rides. They put you to sleep every time.
*You are a good boy when you stay with your grandparents. We take you to my mom's about every day so we can work out. She loves having you and you love being at her house. And your Pawpaw got you your first gun with his initials and yours engraved on it. You also love going to Grandparent Fulton's house. They got you a swing which you love!
*You are growing and changing every day. We weighed you last night and figure you're a whopping 11.5 lbs! Makes mama and daddy happy and sad all at once. We looked back at our hospital pictures last night and realized just how big you've gotten. And you've become quite a handsome little fellow- like your daddy, I must say.
*You're almost 2 months old!!!!!!!!!! Time sure does fly!

Mama's Baby

I love all of your little tongue faces you make! You are staying awake longer during the day and love laying in your pack-n-play. You'll lay there for 30 to 45 minutes and coo and work your arms and legs. I love sitting beside you and talking with you. This morning after I fed you, you gave me the biggest smile I've ever seen. My heart completely melted. You are a sweet boy.

You are also doing great with sleeping at night. We've established that important nightly routine of dimming the lights, quieting the house, feeding, rocking, reading, swaddling, etc. We usually start about 8:30 winding you down from the day. Usually by 10:30, you're in your bassinett, fast asleep. All with little fussing! You're sleeping longer stretches now too which means I'm only up with you once during the night. Last night, you slept 9, yes 9 hours and didn't make a peep. Daddy and I were stoked about that! Keep it up, Webb! :)

I will say that last night, I about had a heart attack. When we got home from visiting my mom, you were screaming from your carseat which is a little unusal- especially since we'd just fed and changed you before we left her house. I got you inside, ran upstairs to change clothes, and got you a bottle- I figured you were just hungry again. As I removed you from your carseat, your little body was beat red and burning hot. I took your hat off and your little head was sopping wet. I immediately took your socks off and yelled for Chris. He told me to check your temp. He grabbed the thermometer while I ran downstairs, wiped you down with a damp rag, and changed you from you gown into something warm and dry. Dad checked your temp- it was fine and you were already calming down and looking much more like yourself. I think I had you bundled up way too much and had the heat on in the car. I am always so worried about you being cold- I never thought about you getting too hot! Geez, mom, think next time! I felt so horrible that you had been hot the whole way home and were literally drenched in sweat. I held you close and said I was sorry about a million times. I know you forgive me- your smile says it all. Next time, I'll be more careful and not turn the heat up so much! Sorry, bud!
Tonight your Grandparent Fultons are coming to keep you while Daddy and I get out of house and go on a little date night. I'm excited about spending time with Dad while you get plenty of love and attention from your grandparents. They adore you so!

Hello 2011!

Happy New Year, Webb! Last night we took you to Winston to see Nancy and Jeff. Nancy had gone long enough without seeing you and she was about to come unglued to get her hands on you! She fed you a little and held you before we ate dinner. Once we got you asleep, we enjoyed a taco dinner and fun times as always. I can't wait until you're a little older so we can really play with you. There will be nonstop laughter, I just know it! Our New Year's was uneventful really as you and daddy both fell asleep but I certainly enjoyed watching the two of you all snuggled up. You really do look just like him- my what a handsome fellow you will be! We look forward to what the new year will hold for you- lots of growing and changing and learning about your new little world. We are so blessed to be your parents and look forward to all of the exciting adventures in your future!

Let's look back at 2010. So many wonderful things happened then . . .

Last February, we went to our place at OKI and saw snow at the beach for the first time! Little did we know that almost one month later, we would find out about you!

We told our parents about you on Mother's Day weekend. We kept it a secret for the first two months and that was really hard! They were so excited!!

Here we are at the Provision Company in Southport on our 6th wedding anniversary! That night we sat by the river and decided boy and girl names.

Spent nearly two weeks at the beach with my best girls, Chris, Nancy, and Jeff. We can't wait to take you to OKI soon!

Daddy spent a lot of time in the garden, growing these delicious veggies! Hello homemade baby food just for you!

This is momma right before school started back- and right before my feet were so swollen!

We had pictures made of our soon-to-be family of three!

By far, the best thing that happened in 2010, on Thanksgiving Day, was your arrival into the world. God has richly blessed us by allowing us to be your parents. I thank Him for you every single day. I know the new year will be so exciting!
